The Memorial to the 9-11 Tragedy on the Harrison County Courthouse Square is a blend of ideas that came from several sectors of the community. But the centerpiece of the monument, a dented and slightly twisted steel girder, is something far more unique and haunting.
It is an actual piece of a girder from the twin towers of the World Trade Center. It was salvaged from the wreckage and stored at the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
