After a three-month delay, the KMEA District 7 All-District Bands finally gave their performance on Saturday, May 3.
This clinic and concert was originally scheduled to occur in late January. However, due to the harsh winter and widespread snow, the event was postponed.
In addition to the change in date, there was also a change in venue, and a change in conductors.
Dr. Cody Birdwell of the University of Kentucky stepped up to conduct the symphonic band due to a scheduling conflict. John Fannin of Murray State was still able to conduct the concert band.
The concert band performed works by W. Francis McBeth and John Fannin while the symphonic band performed works by Sousa, Frank Ticheli, and by UK graduate Ryan George. In addition, the symphonic band also performed a work by Sam Hazo titled “Everything Beautiful.”
This piece was commissioned in memory of longtime Kentucky band director Chuck Campbell, who succumbed to cancer in 2011.
Two students represented Harrison County High School.  Senior Luke Graves and Junior Stephen Yarnell participated in the symphonic band.
Sophomore trombonist Christopher Mashburn was also chosen to participate in the concert band through the audition process in January. However, due to a schedule conflict, was unable to participate on the rescheduled date.
“I am so very proud of these students,” said John Merz, Harrison  County High School band director. “They  performed incredibly well and represented Harrison County at the highest level.”
