For several years the Cynthiana Rotary Club has been a supporter of the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Haiti. Cynthiana and Harrison County residents/businesses have helped with this support through their generous donations to the club’s annual bean soup luncheon.
Earlier this month, the club was surprised with a visit from students who live in the orphanage.
The young adult choir from the Good Shepherd Orphanage in Carrefour, Haiti, visited the Cynthiana Rotary Club luncheon meeting on Aug. 11, 2011. They are under the direction of Gayle Parker of Bridgeton, NJ.
Parker has been working with the choir since the members were 9-10 years old. They completed a two-week tour in New Jersey this past year and were in Kentucky for a two-week tour this year.
They arrived on Aug. 1 and returned to Haiti on Aug. 16. While in Kentucky they stayed at the Wesley Foundation on the University of Kentucky campus.
The choir is looking for sponsors to help offset the cost of its tours. Contact the choir’s International Public Relations Director, Mona Cornet via email at email@example.com. You can visit the orphanage website at www.gsohaiti.org. The Good Shepherd Orphanage is assisted by the Cynthiana Rotary Club as its commitment to an international project.
While visiting with the Cynthiana Rotary Club, the students performed a medley of songs, visited the Cynthiana Museum, enjoying playing at the Flat Run Veterans Park, enjoyed a shopping trip to Walmart followed by a swim party at Roger and Dwana Despard’s house.
