Going strong after 43 years

-A A +A
By The Staff

The Sunrise Homemakers Club continues to be a strong and active club--formed in 1946. Margie Rainey was one of the 21 that formed the club and is a Charter Member of the Harrison County Homemakers. Present membership is 22. This year five new members were welcomed. They are Peggy Barlow, Janice Griffin, Marilyn Moss, Shawna O’Brien, and Sherry Williams.

Members get together each month on the third Tuesday for fellowship, delicious food and interesting lessons provided through the UK Cooperative Extension Service. The club is unique in that the members have a variety of talents. Rita Price is the club president. The president is a strong leader and keeps everyone on their toes. Betty King, vice-president, provides leadership when needed and sharpens our brain with stimulating games and activities. She has good prizes too. Bonnie Florence is the new secretary/treasurer, talented musician, and devotional leader. The past secretary/treasurer, Frances King, was recognized with a plaque for her 15 plus years of service to the club. King has been a faithful member for many years and often brings a “melt-in-your-mouth” chocolate pie. Gaye Marsh and Shirley Moss are the basket makers and crafters in the club. They share their talents at the club, county, area, and state level. The lessons are shared by club member.

Other members are great cooks. Speaking of cooks, on Dec. 19, the club was invited to the home of Marian McNees. Along with club member and neighbor, Janice Griffin, they prepared a Christmas feast. The weather outside was frightful, but inside her home and kitchen was warmth and delicious food. What a delightful day we had.

Other club members not mentioned are Joyce Clifford, Frances Jones, Edna Lang, Rachel Mastin, Doris Fryman, Donna Clifford, Eileen Price, Violet Williams, and Donal VanHook.

As you can see the Sunrise Homemakers are a diverse group. Along with their talents they contribute to the development of the homemaker and her family. We believe the homemaker program brings quality of life to our families and community. Come and join members the third Tuesday of the month and learn about the Homemaker Extension Program.
