Nine years in jail is the sentence handed to Shawn Gifford who was convicted on multiple charges Aug. 18 in Harrison Circuit Court.

Gifford was charged with 18 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument. Sentencing for those charges was five years on Count 1 and four years on Count 2 to run consecutively. All other criminal possession of forged instrument counts were combined.

He also received a five-year sentence for third degree burglary and a 12-month sentence for theft by unlawful taking. That sentence is also to run concurrent.

On three separate forgery charges, Gifford will serve a total of nine years, also to run concurrent to the other charges.

Judge Robert McGinnis denied Gifford’s request for probation.
