Season 6 of Cynthiana Idol started with 11 hopefuls competing to be the next Cynthiana Idol. The competition was more difficult this year as the contestants had to sing from themes starting the first week. This was a change from the usual singer’s choice of the past.
David Gauze, 18, of Cynthiana, breezed through the first week of 80’s hair bands and continued to be in the top during Country Music Hall of Fame week and Beatle’s week. During the finals he once again faired well with Broadway and the much anticipated singer’s choice.
Gauze was a contestant in season 5 but feel short the last night. When asked by host Roger Slade why he competed again? Gauze answered, “The experience was fun last year and I just wanted to try it again.”
On Saturday, May 25, 24 hours after he graduated, Gauze made history when he became the first returning contestant to win Cynthiana Idol. He received a cash prize of $300, a trophy, a photo shoot from Cathy Himes’ Photography and a recording session with One Way Recording Studio.
Rohs Opera House looks forward to having Gauze represent them through the next year and beyond.
