The historic Rohs Opera House looks to have audiences’ funny bones going crazy with its first-ever Funniest Person contest.

Starting on Friday, July 12, Rohs Opera House will host a contest to decide who is the funniest in Harrison County.

According to event planner Matt Linville, contestants will have the opportunity to bring their best comedy to the stage in an effort to gain audience favor in order to move onto the final round

“The way it is gong to work is contestants will have five minutes to perform and they will be rated by the amount of audience cheering,” said Linville. “The two best will move onto the finals and one additional contestant will be picked by the judges.”

According to Linville, there will be three nights of preliminary judging on July 12, 19 and 26 to decide who moves onto the finals, which will be held on Friday, Aug. 9.

“There is of course rules in order to keep the show tasteful to all audiences,” said Linville. “As far as performance it can be anything performers want from stand-up to musical comedy.”

Linville said he hopes that contestants will think outside the box in order to be creative and involve the audience.

“I hope people take notice of this and the prizes that we are offering to the winner,” said Linville. “The winner gets 20 percent of ticket sales as well as other prizes.”

Linville said this is an opportunity for everyone to showcase their funny sides.
