The coolest place to be in downtown Cynthiana on Friday nights this summer is in a lawn chair on Pike Street for the 2014 Summer Concert Series.

The free concert series, which gets underway this Friday, June 13, with the Eric Cummins Band, is a service of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce.

The downtown location for the music series will be a little more uptown than last year, said Chamber Executive Director Pat Grenier.

The Chamber has moved the concert series one block up on Pike Street between Main and Walnut with the stage set up near the  Rohs Opera House and The Rock, she said.

Also, the live music will run from 7-9 p.m. this summer rather than 6 p.m., Grenier said.

“I think people are going to enjoy the concert series a lot more because of its new location and time. At 7 p.m., the evening cool starts and the downtown buildings provide a nice shade. With buildings on both sides of the stage, the music is going to sound better too,” Grenier said.

The concert series is, as always, free to the public. Cynthiana and Harrison County families are invited to bring their lawn chairs, blankets and coolers down on Friday for a pleasant evening of music with friends.

The owners of Rohs Opera House have donated the use of their bathrooms and the electricity for the bands.

“The music will be a mix of contemporary pop, rock, country and Americana,” she said. “There’s something for every member of the family.”

The schedule is as follows:

June 13 - The Eric Cummins Band

June 20 - Great Shoes Band

June 27 - Blue Collar Rebels

July 11 - Marble Creek Rangers

July 18 - Wes Smith

The shows run from 7 - 9 p.m., which will allow people to get to Flat Run Veteran’s Park afterward for the free Friday Flix sponsored by Living Free Communities, Grenier said.

Kiwanis and Rohs Opera House are food sponsors for this Friday. However, Chamber members who would like to be a food and drink vendor for the concert series are welcome. They must contact and register with Grenier at 859-234-5236 or by email at cynchamber@setel.com before doing so, she added.

Vendors must be Chamber members. “It’s one of the perks of being a member,” Grenier said

The Summer Concert Series will come to a grand close with the annual Cynthiana Art Walk on July 25 - 26.

On Friday, the Art Walk, will welcome solo musician Caleb  Ritchie. On Saturday the Art Walk will feature numerous street musicians and a singer-songwriter showcase in the Aeolian Music Hall on the second floor of the Rohs Opera House.

“All the businesses will be open for a showcase of local and regional artists. We will also have the Post-It Note Fashion Show and many other events that weekend. It’s going to be a great time to be in Cynthiana,” Grenier said.
