To the editor:

This letter is to all of the community who have asked about the Food Pantry and want to know our needs. This summer, the fresh produce helped tremendously, but the giving of food and money was lower than usual, but God has blessed us and we have been able to help many.

This letter is also a thank you to all who have given so generously. Bullard, 3M, St. Edward school, Harrison County High School, the library and many more in the last few weeks had food drives and these are so appreciated.

Many have asked when they can start signing up for holiday boxes. This is up in the air. We have enough money to keep the Food Pantry running on a weekly basis, but it is not enough to buy turkeys for the holiday boxes. Last year, 360 boxes and turkeys were given. The turkeys alone will cost between $4,000-$5,000. So, if anyone in the community is interested in helping to buy turkeys, just send a check or give money to Marilyn Wash or myself and it will be used to purchase turkeys. I know some you think it is too early to start talking about Christmas, but we must in order to have everything ready for the boxes at Christmas time.

I really appreciate everything this community does for the Food Pantry and without your help, many would go hungry. Jesus said in Mark 9:41, “He who gives a cup of cold water in my name, will not lose his reward.” A cup of cold water doesn’t sound like much, but the crux of it is whatever you can give, added to what others give, amounts up. Little is much, when God is in it. This Food Pantry is a passion of mine and Marilyn, but it isn’t our Food Pantry or the community’s Food Pantry, it is God’s Food Pantry. We are all in this together. God bless.
