Leith son joins Blue Stars as instructor

In 1964, Tom and Anoma Leith took their 12-year-old son to one of the first-ever organizational meetings of The First Federal Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps of LaCrosse, Wisc. Young Tom was asked to sign up for the instrument that he wanted to play. He signed up for the snare drum. Tom thrived in the environment, loved the competition and became a first-rate snare drummer, featured in front of thousands of fans that were discovering the excitement and unique entertainment at Drum Corps International (DCI) competitions.

He played, traveled and competed with the Blue Stars until his age out year in 1974. He stayed with the Corps two more years as a drum line instructor. Forty-eight years later, on www.bluestars.org, the 2013 Blue Stars Drum and Bugle Corps (still based in LaCrosse, Wisc.) made known their percussion staff for the coming DCI summer marching season.

Thomas Edward Leith, Jr. (Ted), son of Thomas Edward Leith, was announced as their snare instructor. This means that Ted will be instrumental at try-out sessions held around the country, instruct in the month long pre-show rehearsals held in Indianapolis, Ind., and travel with the Blue Stars as they compete around the country this summer. It also means that Tom Sr. will be volunteering in the Blue Stars cook truck for several weeks this summer to be reunited with his old corps and to watch his son instruct a line of eager, new and returning snare drummers.
