The Harrison County Fillies defeated Nicholas County Wednesday night at Robertson County to advance to the 10th Region Tournament.

The win gave the Fillies a 27-9 season record heading into Monday’s quarterfinal game with George Rogers Clark at Montgomery County.

Nicholas County’s loss made their record 7-22 as they also advance to the region.

The quarter final match up between Harrison County and George Rogers Clark was a close contest throughout though Coach Bill Faulkner didn’t think that it should have been that way. “We didn’t play particularly well, he lamented. Our players may have been a little nervous even though GRC has a younger squad than we do. Jordan (Doram) and the other seniors were the difference.”

The Fillies swept aside the jitters long enough to win in three sets 27-25, 25-23 and 25-20. The two had played in the regular season with much the same results with the Fillies winning 25-19, 25-17, and 25-21.

Campbell County improved to 20-14 with a three set win over Bracken County 25-8, 25-10 and 25-8. The loss finished the Lady Bears’ season at 22-12.

Coach Faulkner was looking forward to the Campbell County match on Wednesday.  “We played them close for the first set in the regular season match, he admitted. They are very talented and deep with players that can hit down the line and diagonally across the court. We will have to be at our best to compete.” The match begins in Montgomery County at 5:45 on Wednesday.
