The Harrison County Fillies golf team hit the ground running the past week as they began the season with two large tournaments.
They began by hosting the nine-team Central Kentucky Conference tournament on Friday at the Cynthiana Country Club. Freshmen Sarah Holland and Sarah Durbin led the way for the Fillies as they shot very well for the first time out. Holland finished sixth among the 52 golfers, shooting 90 for the 18 holes.
Durbin came in with a score of 100 to finish second for Harrison County. She was followed by Morgan Nelly with 123, Tori Aubrey with 135 and the youthful Kenzie Jones with 149.
Grant County edged Mason County 352 to 354 to take home team honors. They were followed by Pendleton County, Montgomery County, Bishop Brossart, Harrison County, Bourbon County, George Rogers Clark and Nicholas County. Medalist was Lauren Vice of Mason County with a one under par 71. Macy Wright of Grant County was second with 77.
The Clark County tournament on Monday featured many of the same schools with much different results. The Fillies were last in the eight team field in the match that was won by Scott County with a team total of 343. The Lady Cards easily aced second place Mason County by 18 strokes as the Lady Royals shot 361.
The home team George Rogers Clark was third with 389 followed by Pendleton County with 399. The last four teams were Madison Southern, Bishop Brossart, Bourbon County and the Fillies. Holland again led the Fillies with 106 followed by Nelly 119, Durbin 131 and Jones 147. Kylie Lysack of Scott County was the medalist with a one over 73. Mallory Lovell also from Scott County was second with a score of 80.
The Fillies next test is Thursday at Maysville Country Club where they face the Lady Royals followed by a Monday match against Nicholas County at the Cynthiana Country Club.
