The Harrison County Farmers Market committee is planning there Kick-off meeting on Wednesday, April 13, at the Harrison County Extension Office. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. with pizza for the members. The meeting will include a training event for members becoming WIC certified, Senior’s certified, and GAP Certified. Each of these programs are essential for producers to be able to merchandise to all customers of the market.
The WIC and Seniors Program assist lower income families to purchase vegetables and fruit. The GAP (Good Agricultural Practices) program assures consumers of good safe food from local producers grown in Harrison County. It will be important that everyone interested in joining the market take part in this meeting.
The Harrison County Farmers Market is under the Leadership of Mary Strand, Chairman in 2011 and will be supported by Holly Laytart who will serve as secretary and Butch Case will serve as treasurer. Special thanks to Jane Thomas and Sue Clifford who has led the group for the last few years.
Everyone is reminded that the grand opening for the new facility will be Saturday, April 30, at Flat Run Veterans Park. This will also be the same time of the Home and Garden Show. Hope everyone can take part in both events.
