Long-time Cynthiana attorney John Lair is welcoming a new attorney into his practice.
William “Joey” Verax, 25, of Falmouth was sworn in Friday, Oct. 19.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Verax said of his new position. “I like the interaction with clients.”
He’s no stranger to Harrison County. Verax served two summer internships with Commonwealth Attorney Doug Miller during the summers of 2010 and 2011.
A graduate of Pendleton County High School, Verax played basketball both at the high school level and during his four years at Transylvania University between 2005 and 2009.
In 2009, he was named the Hartland Conference Player of the Year.
Verax graduated magna cum laude from Transylvania in 2009 with a BA in accounting.
He went on to Northern Kentucky University Chase College of Law from August 2009 to May 2010 where he was in the top 14 percent of his class of 118 students.
In 2010, Verax transferred to the University of Kentucky College of Law where he maintained his studies and was ranked 24th in a class of 148 law students.
He was married in September to the former Whitney Nordheim, also from Pendleton County and now a nurse at the University of Kentucky.
The couple has made their home in Georgetown to be closer to both of their jobs.
Verax will be working with clients in all facets of law, including wills, trusts, estates, divorces, custody matters, domestic violence, criminal and traffic, real estate titles, deeds, contracts, corporation and LLC formations and general litigation.
In addition to his internship with Miller and assistant Commonwealth Attorney Michael Laws, Verax was also a summer intern in 2006 for the Geoff Davis campaign. He served as instructor and referee for the Brian Lane Basketball Camp at Transylvania four summers and was an accounting assistant at Munninghoff, Lange and Co. of Covington in 2008. He was also a law clerk for Fred E. Peters in Lexington during the summer of 2009.
He is the son of Dr. William and Rose Verax, Falmouth.
Verax can be reached at the Pike Street office or by calling 234-4445.
