It won’t be the Fourth, but it promises to be Fabulous just the same.
This year’s Rotary-sponsored Fabulous Fourth will be Saturday, June 29, at Flat Run Veterans’ Park. This will be the second year the event will be staged at the Park and not on the Hilltop, said Ralph Deitemeyer, co-chair of the event.
The public is invited to the event beginning at 6 p.m. Fireworks will be held at dark, which he estimates between 9:30 and 10 p.m.
Deitemeyer said there will be plenty of entertainment throughout the evening.
The Licking Valley Singers will be performing a patriotic medley. There will be military honors as well as the raising of the American flag by Blue Grass Energy.
The Blue Collar Rebel band will perform along with local entertainers from Pike Street Opry.
“I think it draws people into the park,” said Deitemeyer of the decision to move the Fabulous Fourth to Flat Run instead of having it on the Hilltop.
There will be four supervised children’s inflatables along with concessions.
Deitemeyer said this year the concessions will be split between two stands in an effort to cut down on patrons having to wait in line.
Police Explorers will be assisting with parking, which will be $5. All of the money from parking will go the construction of basketball courts at the park.
Other funds raised by the Rotary Club will benefit the fire, police and sheriff’s departments in their programs for youth.
Fireworks, which are provided by city and county governments, will be discharged from the Wedco parking lot on the hill above where Fabulous Fourth activities are taking place.
