To the editor:
The family of Dr. Don Stephens would like to express our gratitude for the many condolences expressed and kindnesses extended to us in the wake of his passing. This outpouring of support is truly a testament to his love of and devotion to this community and to his many patients in Harrison County and surrounding counties.
We have read the numerous sympathy cards sent to us, as well as the electronic guest book registers associated with his obituary, and have been touched by the many personal stories contained therein of his care and compassion for others during a medical career that spanned more than half a century. We too, like many of you, have little or no experience with personal medical issues in which he was not directly involved; consequently, we have all been spoiled in that regard … and only in the best of ways.
Although he would likely take no credit himself in the following sentiment, we believe our community and all those he touched, are much the better for him having been here as long as we were fortunate enough to have had him. We also believe he would want us, and all of you, to proceed without heavy hearts, as we will endeavor to do.
Don R. Stephens, Jr.
