Cynthiana United Community Fund an excellent way to help locally

To the editor:
The United Community Fund has been working in Cynthiana and Harrison County since 1972 to raise funds for local community needs such as assisting families in crisis, developing children, helping seniors and encouraging the health and well being of our community.
The United Community Fund is not affiliated with the United Way. We do not have United Way in Cynthiana and Harrison County. United Fund is a 501 (c3) organization. 100 percent of the funds raised are contributed to serve people in Cynthiana and Harrison County. Individuals can indicate on a company United Way pledge form if they would like for their money to go to Harrison County United Community Fund.
Category and Percentage Funds Allocated:
Youth Development and Needs - 25.0%; Senior Citizens - 20.8%; Community Services/Other - 29.7%; Handicapped - 10.7%; Public Health and Safety - 13.8%.
United Fund currently allocates money to the following local organizations: Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Neediest Kids of All, Ombudsman Agency, Cynthiana Harrison County Home Assistance Incorp., Salvation Army, Harrison County Ministerial Assoc., Harrison County Food Pantry, Harrison County 4H Council, Cynthiana-Harrison County Recreational Department, Harrison County Mental Health, Community & Employment Opportunities, Cynthiana-Harrison County Museum, Clothing Closet, Harrison County Cancer Coalition, Commission on Aging, Adult Day Care, Cynthiana-Harrison County Diabetes Association.
The Board consists of local citizens who volunteer their time to raise funds and distribute those funds to local organizations. Board members include the following people: Anthony EckJar, Wanda Jones, Donna Nelson, Lauren Mattox, Alean Spicer, Judy Feeback, Vicki Faulkner, Lonnie Tolson, Mary Sue Grubb, Robin Florence, Kenneth Newby. Each fall we collect contributions and pledges, and in spring the requesting agencies present their missions, operating budgets, services provided and the number of people served in Cynthiana-Harrison County to the Board members, which then makes the allocation decisions.
Our 2014 Contribution goal is $80,000. Please help this year by giving to the United Community Fund. You can mail your contributions to the Untied Community Fund, P.O. Box 194, Cynthiana, KY 41031. You will receive a receipt for taxes.
