A Cynthiana police cruiser is totaled and a police officer is recovering after a Saturday evening wreck.

Police officer Joe F. Warden, 34, was responding to an emergency call Saturday evening at 7 p.m. and was traveling westbound on Pleasant Street, when Warden traveled through an intersection, hitting a 2008 KIA Rondo driven by Cynthia W. Vickers, 43.

Proceeding with the green light at the intersection, Vickers was crossing the intersection toward Ky Hwy 36 West when she was struck on the right side of her vehicle by the police cruiser.

Sheriff’s deputy Robert Peak responded to the accident.

“When she came up to the intersection, she heard the sirens and saw the blue and red lights,” Peak said about Vickers. “But at the time, it was too late... There were no brake or skid marks. She didn’t even have time to put her foot on the brakes.”
