A 20-cent per hour raise for each county employee has passed first reading of the Harrison County Fiscal Court budget.
The vote was 5-3 with magistrates Jeff Brunker, Dwayne Florence and Bradley Copes casting the opposing votes to the budget.
The first proposal was to give each employee a 5 percent pay increase in the coming year. However, that was shot down by some members of the court before it got beyond the draft stage.
The county’s total budget for 2009-10 is $9,413,533 of which over half is devoted to the general fund.
