Greg Ritchie, 30, is in serious condition at UK Chandler Hospital after a Tuesday accident that occurred around 6 p.m.

Ritchie and Stacey Barnes, 24, were traveling southbound on Stratton Pike in a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer, when the vehicle dropped off the right shoulder of the road.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Peak said Ritchie, who was driving the vehicle, steered the Blazer back onto the road, causing the vehicle to flip twice and hit an embankment.

“Upon impact, the vehicle burst into flames,” Peak said.

Ritchie and Barnes were ejected over 20 feet from the vehicle.

Both were airlifted to UK Chandler Hospital from the scene.

Peak said excessive speeding and lack of control of the vehicle are believed to be the cause of the accident.

Kentucky State Police, Harrison County firefighters and Brown Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.

Information regarding Barnes’ condition at UK Chandler Hospital was not available for release at press time Wednesday morning.
