Cynthiana Board of Adjustment will meet Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Planning Commission Office at the Harrison County Courthouse, South Main Street. The meetings are open to the public.

Adult Book Club. The group will meet Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.  at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Refreshments will be provided.


DAR. The Cynthiana Chapter DAR will meet Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. at the home of Sarah Kinney.

Class of 1959. The Harrison County High School Class of 1959 will hold a planning meeting for the 50th reunion on Feb. 18 at 1:15 p.m. at Leono's.


Grant Development 101. Start writing grants. Review the skills needed to prepare professional, competitive and compelling grant proposals. Individuals will be guided step-by-step through the entire process of researching, developing and writing a grant proposal. Harrison County Historical Society will meet Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The speaker will be Melissa Jurgenson who will discuss her new book, River Towns of Central KY.  Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center. The Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center is offering an 8-week psychoeducational group for adult survivors of sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse. The group will be held in the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center’s Lexington office on Tuesdays, Feb. 24-April 28, from 5:30-7 p.m. All groups are free and confidential. Chamber Banquet. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for this year’s Chamber Award Banquet. The Banquet will be held at the Cynthiana Country Club from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27. Categories for nominations are: Business Person of the Year; Educator of the Year; Farmer of the Year; and Citizen of the Year. Mail or bring applications to 201 S. Diabetes Support Groups. Wedco District Health Department offers Diabetes Support Groups in Harrison, Nicholas, and Scott counties. Join us for a cooking demonstration, the U.S Diabetes Conversation Map, and informative information regarding Diabetes Care. The support groups are held in: Nicholas County the first Monday of the month from 3-4 p.m.; Harrison County the third Thursday of the month from 3-4 p.m.; and Scott County the third Thursday of the month from 3-4 p.m. For more information call Crissy at 859-298-4899.

Girl Scout Cookie Sale. Harrison County Girl Scouts are now holding their cookie sales through March 27. Anyone interested in purchasing cookies, $3.50 a box, can call Sherri Migneault at 235-0544. Anyone wishing to buy cookies for the troops overseas may do so and the Girl Scouts will take care of getting them sent out. Proceeds to benefit the local Girl Scouts.

Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program and Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center invite the friends and supporters of our organizations to join us to learn about the projected State budget cuts and the grave impact these potential cuts would have on our ability to provide comprehensive, regional services to victims of abuse and sexual assault. Drop by to learn more and help us educate our legislators and community members regarding the value of our services.

On Display. A Martin Luther King Jr. book collection is on display at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library.

Honor Flight. Are you a World War II veteran? Are you familiar with the free trips to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial? Honor Flight - Bluegrass Chapter, sponsors free monthly flights, March through October, from Louisville to Baltimore and then by bus to Washington to visit the WWII, Korean, and Iwo Jima flag raising memorials. Dog House Recycling. If anyone has a dog house in good condition to donate or know of a dog in need of shelter, contact the Humane Society of Harrison County at 234-1222 or 859-312-1267.

Clothing Closet. The Harrison County Clothing Closet is in need of adults and childrens coats, all sizes. Money donations are also accepted. The Clothing Closet is located at 128 Main Street, (behind the child support office), and is open Mondays and Wednesdays from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Narcotics Anonymous meets every Tuesday at 8 at the Cynthiana Christian Church, and Sundays at 8 at the Church of the Advent Episcopal on Walnut Street.
