THURSDAY, April 16

Harrison County Historical Society will meet Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The speaker will be Charlene Wilson who will present a program about area one-room schools. She has done additional research and updated her program since last presenting it a few years ago. Everyone is welcome to attend.

FRIDAY, April 17

Harrison County 4-H Fashion Revue. Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. at the Harrison County High School. The community is invited to attend.

Art Show. Courthouse Square Arts Guild and Blue Licks State Resort Park will be hosting their 4th annual Young Artists of Kentucky student art show April 17-19 at Blue Licks State Park. There is no entry fee and no admission charge. All participants and their families are invited to a reception Friday April 17 from 7-9 p.m.

Story Hour. Friday, April 17 from 4:30-5 p.m. for ages 2-5 in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Pre-registration is not needed.

MONDAY, April 20

Wedco’s Stop Smoking Information Class. Wedco District Health Department will be sponsoring a Stop Smoking Information Class Monday, April 20 at Harrison County Health Center community room at 5 p.m. Registrations for classes will be taken after the information class. HCHS Class of 1957. The Harrison County High School Class of 1957 will meet at Biancke's on April 20 at noon.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Bookmobile will be available Monday, April 20, Grays Run, from 2-4 p.m.

Planning Commission of Cynthiana, Harrison County, Berry will meet Monday, April 20, 7:30 p.m., at the sheriff’s office. The meetings are open to the public.

TUESDAY, April 21

Story Hour. Tuesday, April 21 from 10-10:30 a.m. for ages 2-5 in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Will be going on a field trip to Cedar Ridge. Make plans to meet at Cedar Ridge in the front lobby. Pre-registration is not needed.

Harrison County Board of Education will meet Tuesday, April 21, 7 p.m., at the Community Education Building. The meetings are open to the public.

WEDNESDAY, April 22

Earth Day Tree Give-away. Wednesday, April 22 at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The library will be giving away trees to the first 100 patrons.

C.H.S. Alumni. The Cynthiana High School Alumni Association will be raffling a UK Print signed by Coach Joe B. Hall and can be seen at A Touch of Charm. Tickets are $5 each or 3 for $10.

Foster Care Volunteers Needed. The Harrison/Pendleton County Citizen Foster Care Review board is seeking volunteers of local foster children. Volunteers are needed to review cases of children placed in foster care.Volunteers are not required to reside in Harrison and Pendleton counties, but must complete a six-hour training session and consent to a criminal record and central registry check. Legal Aid Volunteers Needed. Legal Aid of the Bluegrass’ Bluegrass State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), a non-profit organization, is recruiting volunteers to assist with its mission. The Bluegrass SHIP Program will be conducting a volunteer training on May 4. Southside Council. Southside Elementary School Site-Based Decision Making Council will meet Tuesday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. in the school library. The meeting is open to the public.

Gardening Together. Friday, April 30 for ages 4-12. Mother and child garden project. Learn how to transplant flowers and decorate the pot. This program is sponsored by the Harrison County Garden Club and the library, in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Pre-registration is required and appreciated.

Saint Edward Altar Society of Cynthiana, Ky., will hold their third annual Yard Sale May 7, 8, and 9, at the Florence Tobacco Warehouse, Republican Road (Ky 392 and Oddville Pike. Adult Book Group. The book "My Sister's Kepper" by Jodi Picoult will be the selection for the month of May and is now available at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The group will meet May 7.

Northside Council. Northside Site Based Council will meet Monday, May 11 at 3:45 p.m. in the Northside library. The public is invited to attend.

Pre-K, Kindergarten Registration for the 2009-2110 school year will be held for all elementary schools at the Community Education Center, 308 Webster Ave. on Wednesday, April 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Thursday, April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2009. They are required to have a copy of birth certificate, social security card, a current immunization certificate, a physical and a vision screening exam upon school entrance. Children entering Pre-K for the first time must be 3 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2009, and will need the same information. They will also need a statement of income and a copy of your medical card, if applicable, social security card or number for everyone in the household and a current dental screening. Yard Sale and Pancake Breakfast. Saturday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Berry Lions Club Hall. Cost of the pancake breakfast is $5 per person. Sponsored by the Berry Lions Club. All proceeds to benefit the club’s programs.

 Annual Fish Fry. The annual Berry Lions Club Fish Fry will be held Saturday, May 23 at the Berry Lions Club Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost is $7 per person. All proceeds benefit Berry Lions Club programs.

Diabetes Support Groups. Wedco District Health Department offers Diabetes Support Groups in Harrison the third Thursday of the month from 3-4 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Health Care Campus; and Scott County on the second Thursday from 3-4 p.m. at the Scoutt County Health Center. On Display. A Raggedy Ann display in honor of the festival; and a selection of mandala art created by Lisa Hurst, is featured at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library.

Honor Flight. Are you a World War II veteran? Are you familiar with the free trips to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial? Honor Flight - Bluegrass Chapter, sponsors free monthly flights, March through October, from Louisville to Baltimore and then by bus to Washington to visit the WWII, Korean, and Iwo Jima flag raising memorials. Berry Lions Club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Berry Lions Club Hall at 7 p.m. New members always welcome.
