FRIDAY, Dec. 19

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Dec. 19 in Robynwood Heights at 2 p.m.

Story Hour. Friday, Dec. 19 from 4:30-5 p.m. for ages 2-5 in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Pre-registration is not needed.


Lady Elks Christmas Dance. Dec. 20 from 8 p.m. to midnight in the basement of the Cynthiana Elks Lodge. Snacks will be served and a basket will be raffled. Elk couples, $15; Elk singles, $8; guest couples, $20; and guest singles, $10.

MONDAY, Dec. 22

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Wednesday, Dec. 22 at the Community Action Council Center Harrison Adult Daycare Center at 10:30 a.m.; and in Hinton at 3 p.m.

TUESDAY, Dec. 23

Cynthiana City Commission will meet Tuesday, Dec. 23, 5:30 p.m., upstairs City Hall in the commissioners’ room. The meetings are open to the public.

Christmas Story Hour. Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 10-11 a.m. for ages 2-5 in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Story Hour will celebrate Christmas with a party. Everyone will sing Christmas songs, make an ornament, and snacks. Join the library in this holiday fun. Pre-registration is appreciated.

Fiscal Court of Harrison County will meet Tuesday, Dec. 23, 5:30 p.m., meeting room at the Harrison County Sheriff’s building (former KU building). The meetings are open to the public.

Library Holiday Closings. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library will close Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. and will reopen Friday, Dec. 26 at 10 a.m. The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The library will return to regular hours on Monday, Dec. 29 and will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Monday, Dec. 23 at Edgemont, White Oak, and Locust from 3-4:30 p.m.


Christmas Holiday Closings. The Harrison County Circuit Clerk’s office will close at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and will be closed all day on Dec. 25-27; the office will also be closed on Jan. 1-3, 2009, in observance of the new year.

Harrison County Clerk’s office will be closed the following days: Dec. 24 at noon, Dec. 25 and 26; and Jan. 1 and 2.


Harrison County Health Department will be closed for the holidays on Thursday, Dec. 25, Friday, Dec 26, Thursday, Jan. 1 and Friday, Jan. 2.

AARP Driver Safety Program. Earn a discount on automobile insurance premiums by attending the six-hour class on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 9 a.m. at the Cynthiana Presbyterian Church. The program is a classroom course for drivers 50 and over. A $10 fee covers the course expenses. Seating is limited. Pre-register by calling the church at 859-234-2961. Plan to bring a sandwich.

Northside Council. The Northside Site Based Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 at 3:45 p.m. in the Northside library. The public is invited to attend.

Food for the Holiday. For the month of December, the Galactic Alley Bowling Center and the Bowlers that's Us Relay for Life team are asking each bowler to bring a can of food or non-perishable item each time they bowl to donate to the Harrison County Food Pantry. Boxes are provided at the Bowling Alley for the food.

Democratic Woman's Club of Harrison County is now accepting 2009 scholarship applications, and may be picked up at Harrison County High School from Mrs. Judy-counselor, Jessica Smith-teacher, or by contacting any member of the club. Applications must be turned in by Jan. 5, 2009.

Honor Flight. Are you a World War II veteran? Are you familiar with the free trips to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial? Honor Flight - Bluegrass Chapter, sponsors free monthly flights, March through October, from Louisville to Baltimore and then by bus to Washington to visit the WWII, Korean, and Iwo Jima flag raising memorials. Dog House Recycling. If anyone has a dog house in good condition to donate or know of a dog in need of shelter, contact the Humane Society of Harrison County at 234-1222 or 859-312-1267.

Moms in Touch International (praying for children and schools) is an interdemoninational, non-profit organization. Clothing Closet. The Harrison County Clothing Closet is in need of adults and childrens underwear. Money donations are also accepted. The Clothing Closet is located at 128 Main Street, (behind the child support office), and is open Mondays and Wednesdays from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Harrison County Republican Party will meet the second Wednesday of each month at noon at Biancke's Restaurant.

Kentucky Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The representative will no longer be coming to Cynthiana to assist veterans. TOPS. Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays in the conference room at Harrison Memorial Hospital.

Narcotics Anonymous meets every Tuesday at 8 at the Cynthiana Christian Church, and Sundays at 8 at the Church of the Advent Episcopal on Walnut Street.
