Harrison County Soil & Water Conservation District will be holding their monthly board meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the office located at 103 Rodgers Park Drive. Open to the public.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Aug. 12 at Community Action/Senior Center/Adult Center at  10:30 a.m.; Hinton, 3-4 p.m.

Champions For A Drug-Free Harrison County will meet Monday, Aug. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month.

Fiscal Court of Harrison County will meet Tuesday, Aug. 13, 5:30 p.m., meeting room at the Harrison County Sheriff’s building (former KU building). The meetings are open to the public.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Aug. 13 at Edgemont at 10:30 a.m.

Harrison County Historical Society. Laura Muntz Derr will be the featured speaker at the Harrison County Historical Society on Thursday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Public Library Annex, 101 E. Pleasant St. It is free and open to the public. Derr will read from her recently self-published book, Nick and Viola: A Kentucky Family Tragedy in the Tobacco Wars (1904-1911), and discuss the research required to write the book. The author is donating 50 copies of the book to raise funds for the preservation of the historic Handy House, a project of the Harrison County Heritage Council. She will sign books purchased at the event.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Aug. 16 at Cynthiana Baptist at 10:30 a.m.; Eastside Laundry, 3 p.m.; Grand Haven, 3:15 p.m.

HCHS Class of 1966. Harrison County High School Class of 1966 committee will be holding a 65th birthday party for all classmates to celebrate this special occasion. The event will be held at the Cynthiana Country Club on Aug. 17. For more information contact Susan Argo Kendall at 234-6303.

HCHS Class of 1963. The Harrison County High School Class of 1963 will celebrate their 50th reunion on Aug. 17 at the Prizing House in Cynthiana. Reservations need to be made by Aug. 1 by calling 859-234-6654 or 859-954-0606.

Berry Lions Club Fish Fry. Saturday, Aug. 17 at 5 p.m., Main Street, Berry. All you can eat for $8 per person.

Robertson County Historical Society will meet Monday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. at the Senior Citizens Building in Mt. Olivet.

Rod Run/Walk 5K. Saturday, Aug. 24, 8 a.m. on Safety Way (off New Lair Road to register and start race). T-shirts and goodie bags to the first 100 to register. Awards to first place: Male, Female, Wheelchair participant and Child ages 8 and under, 8-12 and 13-17. Registration fee is $15 (18 and over), $10 (for under 18). Planning Commission of Cynthiana, Harrison County, Berry will meet Monday, Aug. 19, 7:30 p.m., at the sheriff’s office. The meetings are open to the public.

McConnell to Speak to Chamber. U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is scheduled to address the Aug. 21 membership luncheon of the Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce at the Harrison County Extension Office. Chamber members need to rsvp to reserve their seat at the luncheon by contacting the chamber at 234-5236 or emailing cynchamber@setel.com. If you wish to attend but are not a Chamber of Commerce member, contact the Chamber to inquire about guest seats or to join. Pro-rated membership rates for the remainder of the year are available for interested businesses or individuals who wish to join.

Harrison County Board of Education will meet Tuesday, Aug. 27, 7 p.m., at the Community Education Building. The meetings are open to the public.

A Veterans Field Representative is available on the third Tuesday of each month at the County Sheriff’s office in Cynthiana from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This service is free of charge. Veterans and their dependents will receive assistance filing for Federal and State veterans benefits. Veterans need to furnish copies of pertinent documentation to verify eligibility. National Adopt-A-Shelter-Cat Month.  Flora Shropshire Animal Shelter cats are just $25 through Aug. 8. Each cat or kitten comes with a voucher for a free rabies shot, a free vet exam and a free spay/neuter. Call the shelter at 859-234-7138 to inquire about adopting a cat or kitten.

Robertson County Historical Society reminds all veterans, past or present, alive or passed on, to bring their photos, name of service, years, rank, where served to the Robertson County Library. All photos will be returned. Don’t delay. They are needed to be placed in the Veteran’s Book.

Harrison County Republican Party meets monthly on the first Thursday of each month. Meetings are held in the Sheriff’s Office at 7 p.m.

Harrison County Clothes Closet. A new drop box is now located in the back parking lot of Cynthiana Baptist Church, and is in need of coats (all sizes) and blankets.
