Cynthiana-Harrison County Economic Development Authority will meet Thursday, Jan. 8 at 9 a.m. in the boardroom at the Farmers National Bank, Southside Branch.

FRIDAY, Jan. 9

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Jan. 9 at Grand Haven at 3 p.m.

Story Hour. Friday, Jan. 9 from 4:30-5 p.m. for ages 2-5 in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Pre-registration is not needed.

DAR. The Cynthiana Chapter of DAR will meet Saturday, Jan. 10 at 12:30 p.m. at Biancke's Restaurant.

MONDAY, Jan. 12

Wedco’s Stop Smoking Class. The Wedco District Health Department will be sponsoring a Stop Smoking Class starting Monday, Jan. 12 at Bullard Manufacturing at 3:30 p.m. All smokers that want to quit are invited. Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Monday, Jan. 12 at Community Action Community Center and Harrison County Adult DayCare at 10:30 a.m.; and in Hinton at 3 p.m.

What is Snail Mail. Monday, Jan. 12 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for Kindergarten through fifth grade in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Before texting, e-mail, or even the telegraph, there was only one way to get a message from one person to another--letter writing. This program will feature a person from the post office that will give a little history about mail and what happens with mail after a person sends the letter off. There will also be pen-pal opportunities and a chance to send letters to service people deployed overseas.  Make plans to join the library for this special program by calling 234-4881 or stop by the library front desk. Pre-registration is appreciated.

Champion For A Drug-Free Harrison County will meet Monday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. at the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. Meetings are held the second Monday of each month.

Harrison County Soil & Water Conservation District will meet Monday, Jan. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the office located at 103 Rodgers Park Dr., Cynthiana. Open to the public.

HCMS Council. The Harrison County Middle School Site Based Decision Making Council will meet Monday, Jan. 12 at 4:30 p.m. in the school library. The meeting is open to the public.

TUESDAY, Jan. 13

Cynthiana City Commission will meet Tuesday, Jan. 13, 5:30 p.m., upstairs City Hall in the commissioners’ room. The meetings are open to the public.

Fiscal Court of Harrison County will meet Tuesday, Jan. 13, 5:30 p.m., meeting room at the Harrison County Sheriff’s building (former KU building). The meetings are open to the public.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Tuesday, Jan. 13 in Claysville at 10:30 a.m.; and Edgemont, White Oak and Locust area at 3 p.m.

Warriors Book Club. Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. for ages 9-14. This will be the first meeting of a new book club. At this first meeting the library will discuss Erin Hunter’s first book, “Into the Wild.” Bring own copy or share the library’s copy because there will be some excerpts read from the book. Also, during the course of the meeting each member will be assigned to a clan and a Warrior name. Please bring a t-shirt so each member can design their own Warriors’ club shirt (fabric paint will be provided). Sign-up at the library front desk or by calling 234-4881. Democratic Woman's Club of Harrison County is now accepting 2009 scholarship applications, and may be picked up at Harrison County High School from Mrs. Judy-counselor, Jessica Smith-teacher, or by contacting any member of the club. Applications must be turned in by Jan. 5, 2009.

Honor Flight. Are you a World War II veteran? Are you familiar with the free trips to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial? Honor Flight - Bluegrass Chapter, sponsors free monthly flights, March through October, from Louisville to Baltimore and then by bus to Washington to visit the WWII, Korean, and Iwo Jima flag raising memorials.
