2011 Bluegrass Beekeeping School. March 12 at the Kentucky State University, Frankfort, Ky. This annual program offers two tracks. There will be a basic introductory course for new beekeepers and persons who may be interested in beekeeping and a large number of sessions for experienced beekeepers. A certificate for a free package of honeybees and a complete hive will be given away to a new beekeeper in the beginners’ course and a vendor trade show will be part of the school. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. in the lobby of Bradford Hall at Kentucky State University. A pre-registration form may be downloaded from the State Apiarist’s webpage at www.kyagr.com/statevet/bees. There is a pre-registration fee of $20 per person (there are also discounts for family and school age youth). At the door, the registration fee will be $25 per person. Baby Items for Fines. Baby items are being accepted during the month of March in lieu of fines at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Items that can be donated are: lotion, diapers, wipes, onesies and socks. Items will be donated to Active Duty Female Soldiers by the D.A.R.
District Report Card. All required elements of the Harrison County School District Report Card have been published by the Kentucky Department of Education on its website and can be viewed at http://applications.education.ky.gov/schoolreportcardarchive/. A hard copy of this report is available at the Cynthiana Public Library, 104 N. Main St., Cynthiana. Pre K and Kindergarten Registration for the 2011-2012 school year will be held for all elementary schools at the Harrison County Board of Education, 308 Webster Ave. on Wednesday, May 18 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Thursday, May 19 from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011. They are required to have birth certificate, social security card, current immunization certificate, physical, dental screening and eye screening upon school entrance. You must have a copy of the original birth certificate from Frankfort to register your child(ren). You can pick up birth certificate applications at the Community Education Center or the local Health Department. Physicals and immunizations will be available on day of registration. Children entering Pre-K for the first time must be 3 years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011. Pre K students need the same information and in addition, they will need a statement of income for the last 12 months, lead screening, social security card for everyone in household, and copy of medical card, if applicable. Harrison County Commission On Aging, Inc. Board will have their monthly board meeting on March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Senior Citizen's Center. On March 18 at 10 a.m. the Office of the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Program is offering its Senior Crime College at the Senior Citizen's Center, 216 Old Lair Rd., Cynthiana.
