Commissioner Billy Grayson urged commissioners to consider looking for ways to improve the City Hall gym facility at Tuesday evening’s city commission meeting.
“We really need to put our thinking caps on,” Grayson said, adding that he recently toured the gym after he heard some citizens’ concerns.
“The city hall gym is a very, very difficult problem to tackle,” said Commissioner Mark Mattmiller.
While the building needs new windows and heating, Mattmiller said the city should think twice before exhausting financial resources in the building.
“It’s an absolute dilemma as to what to do with that gym in terms of putting any money into it, when we’re trying to look at building a new place at the Handy farm,” Mattmiller said.
Mattmiller said he believed an indoor facility, with its variety of possible uses, should be the first structure built at the park.
No action was taken on the issue.
