A federal judge sentenced local cigarette manufacturers to prison for their admitted roles in avoiding tax payments on their cigarettes over a two-year period.
Robert Ammerman, 71, will serve 18 months in jail and his son, Mike, 47, will serve 15 months. The Ammermans are the owners of Farmers Tobacco Co. of Cynthiana, makers of Kentucky Best cigarettes and other brands.
