FRIDAY, Jan. 30

Free Tax Preparation will be provided by the state organization KDVA at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library on the following dates that are currently available: Jan. 30, Feb. 3 and Feb. 7. Anyone may register for an appointment (no walk-ins will be accepted) by calling Lee Zuhars at (502) 209-5382.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Friday, Jan. 30 in Robynwood Heights at 2 p.m.

Story Hour. Friday, Jan. 30 from 4:30-5 p.m. for ages 2-5 in the Feix Community Room at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Pre-registration is not needed.


Census Testing. Taking place at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library in the Feix Community Room as follows: Saturday, Jan. 31, General testing 9 a.m.-noon; Tuesday, Feb. 3, Supervisor testing 1-3 p.m. Additional dates are available. Call the library for details at 234-4881.

Northside Council. Northside Elementary School Site Base Council will hold a special meeting on Monday, Feb. 2 at 3:45 p.m.

Bookmobile. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library Bookmobile will be available Monday, Feb. 2 Grays Run and Leesburg area from 2-4 p.m.

Free Tax Preparation. Community Action will be offering Free Tax Preparation for people who earned $42,000 or less in 2008 starting Feb. 4. The individual may also be eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit. Days and hours will be Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Call 234-2121 if you have any questions and/or to make an appointment.


Homemade from the Heart with Beckie Grear. Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. Learn how to make greeting cards. All material will be provided. Registration will be limited to first 10 adults.

Bingo - Cynthiana Elks Bingo will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, and Saturday, March 7. Doors open at 5 p.m., with Bingo starting at 6:30 p.m. with a $1,000 coverall.

Girl Scout Cookie Sale. Harrison County Girl Scouts are now holding their cookie sales through March 27. Anyone interested in purchasing cookies, $3.50 a box, can call Sherri Migneault at 235-0544. Anyone wishing to buy cookies for the troops overseas may do so and the Girl Scouts will take care of getting them sent out. Proceeds to benefit the local Girl Scouts.

Chamber Banquet. The Cynthiana-Harrison County Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations for this year’s Chamber Award Banquet. The Banquet will be held at the Cynthiana Country Club from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27. Categories for nominations are: Business Person of the Year; Educator of the Year; Farmer of the Year; and Citizen of the Year. Mail or bring applications to 201 S. Adult Book Club. The book 'Troublesome Creek' by local author Jan Watson will be the selection for the month of February.  The book is now available for pick-up at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library. The group will meet Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 10 a.m. or Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. Pick whichever date works best. Refreshments will be provided.

Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center. The Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center is offering an 8-week psychoeducational group for adult survivors of sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse. The group will be held in the Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center’s Lexington office on Tuesdays, Feb. 24-April 28, from 5:30-7 p.m. All groups are free and confidential. Grant Development 101. Start writing grants. Review the skills needed to prepare professional, competitive and compelling grant proposals. Individuals will be guided step-by-step through the entire process of researching, developing and writing a grant proposal. Stop the needless suffering of companion animals who should never have been born. On Display. A Martin Luther King Jr. book collection is on display at the Cynthiana-Harrison County Public Library.

Honor Flight. Are you a World War II veteran? Are you familiar with the free trips to Washington, D.C. to see the memorial? Honor Flight - Bluegrass Chapter, sponsors free monthly flights, March through October, from Louisville to Baltimore and then by bus to Washington to visit the WWII, Korean, and Iwo Jima flag raising memorials. Clothing Closet. The Harrison County Clothing Closet is in need of adults and childrens coats, all sizes. Money donations are also accepted. The Clothing Closet is located at 128 Main Street, (behind the child support office), and is open Mondays and Wednesdays from noon to 3:30 p.m.
