The first Heart Walk in Bourbon County will take place on May 19 starting and finishing on Bourbon Community Hospital’s campus. The event will get started at 9 a.m. with registration for the walk and a Zumba demonstration led by Angela Fugate, Certified Zumba Instructor.
The Zumba demonstration is open for everyone to join in. The walk will begin on Clinic Drive at 9:30 a.m. The walk will go down East Main Street and follow the Historic Paris-Bourbon County downtown district before returning back to the hospital campus. The walk is a participation walk rather than a timed walk to encourage walkers to bring their families to the event.
The hospital will also have an 18 ft. inflatable slide for the kids to enjoy and a toddler’s bouncer for the little ones under three. There will also be a corn hole game for kids and adults. The Scoreboard Bar and Grill will be the food vendor for the event. Other vendors include: Initial Outfitters Jewelry, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Thirty-One, Pampered Chef, Gold Canyon and Tupperware. There is still space for vendors and may reserve a space by calling Diane Wagoner at 859-987-1001 or e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Trophies will be awarded to the team with the most walkers in three different categories: business, schools, church/charity organizations. All participants will receive a ribbon.
“We are very excited about sponsoring a Heart Walk in Bourbon County,” stated Diane Wagoner, organizer of the event. “Our employees do a fantastic job of raising money throughout the year for organizations such as the American Heart Association. We will be accepting donations for the American Heart Association at the event as well.” Wagoner went on to say, “If this event is well received we will be looking at doing a Fall walk too. We feel it is important to promote events that encourage physical activity, not only for our youth but adults as well. We all need a healthier lifestyle and walking in groups is a fun way to start to achieve that goal.”
