A team of Blue Grass Energy linemen are now world champions.
The team of three brought home the first place trophy from the 2011 International Lineman’s Rodeo.
Brad Wiglesworth (Cynthiana District), Miles Shumaker (Richmond District) and Eugene Neeley (Richmond District) competed against teams from around the world, including teams from eight countries, and won first place in the overall competition.
Almost 800 linemen gathered in Bonner Springs, Kan., for the 28th Annual International Lineman’s Rodeo on Saturday, Oct. 15. Teams competed in various events, including the hurt-man rescue, pole climb and mystery events.
“Linemen from around the world compete at this rodeo,” said Mike Williams, Blue Grass Energy president and CEO. “This first place trophy is a testament to our linemen’s dedication to safety on the job. Safety is part of our culture at Blue Grass Energy.”
The rodeo offers lineman a chance to test their safety skills and compare them to others in the industry.
“At the end of the competition, only a handful remained in top ranks and one of our teams was named world champions,” said Rad Combs, Blue Grass Energy safety coordinator. “We are very proud of the efforts and achievements of our linemen.”
Blue Grass Energy rodeo team — Ben Coffey, Chris Johnson, Dathan Lane, Eugene Neeley, Miles Shumaker and Brad Wiglesworth — has a history of winning. In April, the team took first place in overall journeyman at the Gaff-N-Go Rodeo in Virginia.
