The Sunday morning fire that closed Biancke’s for the second time in less than nine months could have been a lot worse, according to the 25-year-old owner Mary Todd Ashbrook.
About 10:30 a.m., while the Sunday morning crowd was having coffee and breakfast, smoke began seeping through the cracks in the floor.
Ashbrook said she was in her apartment above the restaurant when Jan Taylor Wilson called to tell her that something was wrong. The floor was shaking and smoke was filling up the dining room.
