Caitlin Faulconer Duke will graduate from Oberlin College in Ohio May 31, 2010 with degrees in Hispanic Studies, Creative Writing and English with a GPA of 3.70.

Duke graduated as Salutatorian from Athenian High School in Danville, Calif. June 2, 2006 with a GPA of 4.11. Athenian High School is a college prep school. She was a recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, was an exchange student in Peru in the fall semester of 2005, a visiting scholar with the National Young Leaders Conference in Washington, D.C. She participated in numerous communication projects including English as a second language and nominated to Who’s Who among American High School graduates. Before high school, she attended Montessori Grade School in the Bay area.

Duke will begin teaching for Teach America in the San Francisco Bay area in the Oakland Unified School District in June. She spent the spring semester of 2009 at the University of Cordoba in Spain.

She is the daughter of Ray and Karen Faulconer Duke, the granddaughter of Yvonne Kondelis Hatterick, all of Cynthiana, and William Faulconer of Melbourne, Fla., and the great-granddaughter of the late Carlos and Nettie Lemons of Cynthiana and the late Willie D. and Odella Faulconer of Harrison County.


The nomination forms will be available in the HCHS office during normal office hours April 12-16. The forms must be turned into the HCHS office by 3:30 p.m. Friday, April 16. Parents/legal guardians are eligible for nominations. You must have a student enrolled in HCHS grades 9-11 or an HCMS student in the eighth grade, moving to HCHS next year.

The election will be Tuesday, April 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. The eligibility for voting follows the same guidelines as nominations. Those voting must come in person and identify the student enrolled for the coming year.
