The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department reported an unusual spike in thefts of central air conditioners from at least three county homes last week. Deputies speculated that the units were likely stolen for their supply of copper and scrap metal.
Though theft and vandalism of central and window air conditioning units for copper tubing and scrap are nothing new to the area, Sheriff’s Deputy Dean Hutchison noted that these types of burglaries have not been all that prevalent this year.
