4-H Club Organization and

Project Enrollment in Progress

We are meeting with all 4th and 5th graders and Middle School students to give them an opportunity to enroll in 4-H for the upcoming year. In addition all High School students grades 9-12, St. Edwards Club and home School students are eligible to participate in 4-H. 4-H has a lot to offer the youth of Harrison County. The goals of 4-H include citizenship development, leadership development and learning how to do many things through 4-H projects and activities.

In addition to enrollment packets being passed out in the schools, they are available at the Harrison County Extension office, 668 New Lair Rd., Cynthiana.

The enrollment forms should be returned as soon as possible to school offices or the Harrison County Extension Office so we can make project member lists and club lists. 4-H has been an important and traditional activity for many Harrison County youth in the past years and will continue to be so. It provides both educational opportunities and recognition for them. They will also learn how to participate in meetings where parliamentary Procedure is used. Many outstanding 4-H members have gone on to college and/or become outstanding citizens in their community. We urge parents to have their children enroll in 4-H. There is no charge to be a member of the Harrison County 4-H program.

Robert Wigginton

4-H Memorial Award

An award to be given to outstanding 4-H’ers in Harrison County in memory of Robert Wigginton, Extension Agent in Harrison County from 1942-1964 is in its 23rd year. It is based strictly on 4-H activities.

The award will be made to one outstanding senior 4-H’er and one outstanding junior 4-H’er each year. A 4-H member may only receive this award once as a junior 4-H’er (ages 9-13) and once as a Senior 4-H’er (ages 14-19). Age is determined by the 4-H’ers age on Jan. 1 of the award year.

This award has been conceived by David Gragg, Clarence Ammerman, and other former or current members of the Harrison County community that wanted to memorialize Robert Wigginton’s many years of service to the 4-H youth of Harrison County.

This is based strictly on 4-H participation and experiences. Forms may be requested through the Harrison County Extension Center on New Lair Road or call 234-5510. They are due in the Harrison County Extension Center by Monday, Nov. 8, 2010.
