There were only three soccer teams in the 10th Region girls’ competition with winning season records.
The region winner, Bishop Brossart, Campbell County and the Harrison County Fillies each compiled records of winning more than they lost.
In addition to the three leaders, George Rogers Clark and Montgomery County had winning records against region competition.
When the coaches got together however, when the 35-member all region team was named, the difference between some of the teams with much poorer records total number of players selected by the coaches and the third place team, the Fillies, was not how it should have been.
For example, Bourbon County’s goal keeper, Paige Puckett, was named first team all region yet her team was 9-10-2 for the year and she gave up 30 goals.
Courtney Ledonne of Bishop Brossart gave up 14 goals in six more games for a team that was 19-7-1 and the Fillies Chelsea Ingram was named to the third team while giving up 24 goals for the Fillies who were 11-5-5.
The voting, which is a function of the coaches, is quite inconsistent with some favorites and some not considered equally.
The Fillies had four girls named to the three team squad. Junior Marly Jenkins was named to the first team, senior Randi Schweitzer was named to the second team while junior Taylor Fry joined Ingram on the third team.
Eight of the Bishop Brossart 11 starters were named to the three teams with Sam Cetrulo named Defensive Player of the Year.
Campbell County had five players on the squads including the Offensive Player of the Year, Taylor Robinson. Bourbon County, Montgomery County (7-12) and Scott High (8-9-3) each had three members on the all region teams.
George Rogers Clark, Paris and Pendleton County had two players each named while Calvary Christian, Mason County and St. Patrick had one team member each.
